The RISE Center

Originally built in 1922 as one of the first brick buildings in the area, after the destructive Great Arverne Fire of 1922 destroyed the previous firehouse. The building served FDNY  Engine Company 265 Ladder 121, known as "the Best on the Beach" until 2004, before moving to the newly built firehouse on Beach 48th St.  

In 2016, RISE officially completed renovation of the Beach 59th St Firehouse located on Rockaway Beach Boulevard,  as a central hub for community programs and collaboration focused on environmental concerns in the region, which affect the environmental, economic, physical health, and well-being of the Rockaway community.

RISE partners with community-based organizations and local businesses to host a variety of youth programs and community events free to the public. 

The "Great Hall" gallery on the main floor has space for visual arts exhibitions and visiting planners, scientists, and experts to lead community-led projects, lectures, and programs for youth and the local community.

The RISE Center has become a Rockaway destination, focused on raising awareness of its natural beauty and bringing opportunities for economic development and vibrancy to the Rockaway peninsula.
